Positive Politics: An introduction to the Hope Survey
The Hope Survey is one designed to ask North Dakota candidates questions on issues related to suicide prevention, food security for youth, and LGBTQ+ individuals. This survey also asks what makes candidates the most hopeful about North Dakota, who their favorite comedian is, and what they promise to do even if not elected. It isn't looking for talking points, it is looking to get a peek at the human running for office.
This survey is not interested in asking if individuals are for or against issues, but rather just if they plan to focus on the topics mentioned. It isn't a bad thing if someone has different priorities in office and generally we could assume everyone supports suicide prevention. This survey is to encourage candidates to think about what makes them hopeful, to get them to think about their role in suicide prevention, and to ask them to commit to their communities regardless of the outcomes of the race.
