The State Organizations Report is a comprehensive overview of 40 different organizations that contribute meaningfully to reducing suicidality across the state. While suicide prevention is not the primary focus of many of these organizations, they all work in some capacity to reduce risk factors or improve protective factors for people living and working in North Dakota. Sometimes that is improving food access, giving shelter, fighting for rights, or improving education around vaccines. In big and small ways, these organizations make the state better and fight for a better tomorrow.
The only problem is so often people don't know about this work being done. And we can be so busy and focused on our own issues we miss out on the literally tens of thousands of people across our state all contributing to important causes. This report is intended primarily to uplift and celebrate these organizations and connect people to a shared vision of a better North Dakota. |
The Demographics of North Dakota Lawmakers gives us the first look we have in the state of the general make-up of our legislative body. While this is just a data brief that only covers the surface, it gives individuals a sense of what the lawmaking body looks like compared to the general state around items like Political Party, Gender, Sexuality, Veteran Status, Parenthood, and Occupation.
The data brief by itself shows there is disproportional representation, but that isn't necessarily a good or bad thing. It is important, however, to consider it to think about the voices who are at the table and who aren't when passing law. While this is a very informal look at our systems in place, the data brief recommends so much more work could be done by researchers or standardized into our regular processes! |
The North Dakota 2025 State of the State Report for LGBTQ+ Youth is now live! This is a comprehensive report on the outcomes of our LGBTQ+ Youth across multiple systems. Focusing on the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) of 2023, it looks at outcomes related to suicidality, mental health, bullying, sexual violence, substance use, and safety. It also compares data sets between YRBS and Trevor Project, the North Dakota Violent Death Reporting System, the College Health Assessment and even our suicide call center.
Finally, it explores the perspectives of student counselors, organizations across our state, parents of LGBTQ+ youth, and the LGBTQ+ youth themselves. It looks at the barriers we face, the solutions to the problems, and provides resource printouts. There is no report that is as comprehensively detailed about our LGBTQ+ youth in North Dakota today. |
The North Dakota 2022 Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System LGBTQ+ Report features the first look at LGBTQ+ adult data in our state. This report is an informal summary and exploration of 2022 BRFSS data provided by the ND Department of Health and Human Service. Data analysis provided by Clint Boots, Research Analyst with North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services. Full Cross-Tabulated Results can be Found Here.
